As you can see, Wilkie’s definitions would mean that both Butcher and Horn’s pieces were site specific, as they were improvised around the individual performers experience of the space. In this essay by Mace Frances and Dr Cat Hope, they deconstruct what constitutes a ‘site-specific’ piece of music, paraphrasing Fiona Wilkie, who has written extensively about site specific theatre in Britain. Horn is using the dome as a reverb chamber, an effect, whereas Butcher found elements of interactivity within the spaces, whether that is resonance or bird song. Much like Butcher, he responds to the space he is in, yet unlike Butcher he does not utIlise the space in the same way. Horn was a jazz flutist and recorded the album without permission using guerrilla recording techniques. The album was recorded inside the Taj Mahal, utilising the natural reverb caused by the huge dome. Another example of site specificity in music is Paul Horn’s album, Inside (1968). This is a question I hope to explore with my EP, and I would like to achieve a similar harmony (or dissonance) with environment as John Butcher does. In a description by Radio Free Midwich, they state that ‘In ‘Wind Piece’, recorded at the Standing Stones of Stenness on the Orkney mainland, the eerie pitch-shifted coos that merge with birdsong and Butcher’s own gurgling breaths could be emanating from the rocks themselves.’ Reality is distorted by the introduction of an instrument, the question raised being what place does an ‘artificial’ element have in a soundscape? For example the harmonics and echo on ‘Sympathetic Magic (Metal)’ break down the line of perception between instrumental and environmental sound. An intriguing aspect of the album is that often the spaces themselves become audible and seem to reply to his playing. Each piece is a improvisational response to the location of performance. The album was recorded on a tour around Scotland, performing in spaces that were ‘chosen for their specific, idiosyncratic acoustic properties’. With the development of my EP, and my increasing interest between performance and environment, Ingrid suggested that I listen to the work of John Butcher, specifically his album ‘Resonant Spaces’ (2008). The Library of Congress recently published a large portion of this collection at loc.gov, so you can go see for yourself what all the fuss is about.Practices which, in one way or the other,Īrticulate exchanges between the work and the All together, they compose the largest single collection of the folk music and storytelling tradition from Michigan's early statehood. The trip yielded impressive results: after three months of travel, interviews, and recording sessions, Lomax returned home with hundreds of vinyl field recordings, photographs, and even a few black-and-white video clips. In 1938 the Library of Congress sent Lomax through Michigan and Wisconsin for the sole purpose of documenting the folk tradition there. They might have been lost for good, but for the work of a young song collector by the name of Alan Lomax. These very songs - and many songs like them - were sung throughout the Great Lakes region for decades, yet, in spite of their popularity, were rarely written down. That’s owed mainly to the workers themselves, who, after a hard winter spent felling trees, or a dangerous voyage in a freighter filled with far too much iron ore, turned that pain and adventure into music. In the 19th century, while the lumber and mining trades prospered in Michigan, so did the folk tradition. A collection of forgotten folk songs from Michigan and Great Lakes region, re-imagined in a contemporary style. Several narrative downloadable content (DLC) packs were released to support Inquisition. It was awarded numerous accolades and nominated for more, including Game of the Year by several gaming publications. Commercially, it was one of the most successful games released by BioWare. The game received some criticism for its filler content, technical issues, tactical view, and aspects of its narrative. Upon release, the game received critical acclaim, with critics praising its exploration gameplay, combat, visuals, writing, characters and customization. Officially announced in September 2012 as Dragon Age III: Inquisition, the game was released worldwide in November 2014 for Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Trevor Morris composed the game's soundtrack, replacing Inon Zur, the composer used for the previous games. They had to crunch extensively during development, and because of hardware limitations on older generation consoles several gameplay features had to be cut. Having begun development in 2011, BioWare used EA DICE's Frostbite 3 engine to power the game, though this created many development challenges for the team. Ultimately, BioWare wanted the third Dragon Age game to combine the elements of the first two games in the series. BioWare sought to address player feedback for Dragon Age II as a major goal, which influenced the design decisions of its sequel. The release of Dragon Age II was met with a mixed reception from players who lamented the loss of the complexity of the first game, Dragon Age: Origins (2009). Players control the Inquisitor or their companions mainly from a third-person perspective, although a traditional role-playing game top-down camera angle is also available. Dragon Age: Inquisition 's gameplay is similar to its predecessors, although it consists of several semi- open worlds for players to explore. The story follows a player character known as the Inquisitor on a journey to settle the civil unrest in the continent of Thedas and close a mysterious tear in the sky called the "Breach", which is unleashing dangerous demons upon the world. The third major game in the Dragon Age franchise, Inquisition is the sequel to Dragon Age II (2011). This subreddit and its mods are in no way associated with BioWare or EA.Dragon Age: Inquisition is a 2014 action role-playing video game developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts.
Moto Z Play Droid (left) and Moto Z Force Droid (right) Instead of 802.11ac and 2x2 MIMO, the Moto Z Play only supports 802.11n over 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Other connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0 LE, NFC, and Wi-Fi, although the latter option receives a downgrade relative to the other Moto Zs. The Qualcomm X9 modem that comes integrated within the Snapdragon 625 SoC supports 2x20 MHz carrier aggregation on both the downlink and uplink, providing up to 300 Mb/s and 150 Mb/s, respectively. The SoC is paired with 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM that should provide sufficient bandwidth for this SoC and enough room for efficient multitasking with the Moto Z Play’s near-stock Android OS. Most significantly is a switch from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC to the Snapdragon 625, which includes eight ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores running at up to 2.0GHz and a slimmed down Adreno 506 GPU that supports the latest OpenGL ES 3.1 and Vulkan graphics APIs. To my aged eyes, the difference between the Moto Z Play Droid’s 1080p display and the Moto Z Droid’s 1440p display is small but noticeable.įortunately, the Moto Z Play comes with two user-selectable color modes: a “Standard” mode calibrated for the sRGB color space and a “Vibrant” mode that takes advantage of the AMOLED panel’s wider color gamut to display more vivid colors. For this reason, we prefer a 1440p (QHD) resolution for phablet-sized displays to mitigate the loss in sharpness and color artifacts caused by PenTile’s diamond layout. Because of the PenTile subpixel layout, the effective pixel density is less than a 1080p LCD of the same size. The Moto Z Play Droid still uses a 5.5-inch Samsung AMOLED display like its brothers, but resolution drops to 1920x1080. The Moto Z Play Droid costs less than the Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Force Droid, both of which went on sale just over one month ago, and while it maintains full compatibility with Motorola’s Moto Mods and retains the same design language, there are some interesting hardware differences. Motorola’s modular Moto Z family gets a new member today. Qualification for the World Cup has begun in Asia and Africa but is yet to start in Europe, the Americas and Oceania.
